The Lee Family Digital Archive is the largest online source for primary source materials concerning the Lee family of Virginia. It contains published and unpublished items, some well known to historians, others that are rare or have never before been put online. We are always looking for new letters, diaries, and books to add to our website. Do you have a rare item that you would like to donate or share with us? If so, please contact our editor, Colin Woodward, at  (804) 493-1940, about how you can contribute to this historic project.

Mr. C. F. Lee Jr.

Dear Sir,

I had not forgotten your request about getting some information of the history of carving of Lee Arms, or the house in which the carving of same (a photograph of which you have) was placed, and had requested of Judge Brown to give me in writing all the information he could furnish relative to the same, he told me he was not as well informed on the subject as his son (now residing in Washington D.C.) and that his son could give me a more satisfactory history of it, but I rather inferred that neither could give a very lengthy account of it, and I intended to see or write to his son, and furnish you with what information I might be able to obtain from him, but circumstances at the time prevented me from getting such information, and since I had overlooked it, but would have seen Capt Brown here in apl next when I would have mentioned the matter to him, and now what I have to say in reference to the matter is this (Providence permitting) I expect to go to Washington between this time & the first of March, and while in Washington I will see Capt Brown and all the information he can give me, I will either bring down for send down to you, and if I find out that I can not go, I will write him from here & get it, and send to you, inform me, if that arrangement will suit you; but if it is absolutely necessary that you should have it sooner. I will write to him sooner.

Yours very truly

Wm A. Crallé
