Apr. 1st 1904
My dear Miss Alice
It is very hard for me to decline your very kind invitation for the 8th of April, but unfortunately I have an engagement [covering?] that time, and although not of a very diminutive size, yet I have not reached the proportions that will permit of my being in two places at once.
I appreciate your hospitality very much, and hope I may have the pleasure of seeing you in the near future.
R. E. Lee Jr.
