The Lee Family Digital Archive is the largest online source for primary source materials concerning the Lee family of Virginia. It contains published and unpublished items, some well known to historians, others that are rare or have never before been put online. We are always looking for new letters, diaries, and books to add to our website. Do you have a rare item that you would like to donate or share with us? If so, please contact our editor, Colin Woodward, at  (804) 493-1940, about how you can contribute to this historic project.

Camp 30 Mar ’64

My dear Mary

Your note of the 29th with the bag of socks arrived this afternoon. The number of prs: as stated by you was correct, 30 prs: good & true. I am glad to find there arithmetic enough in my family to count 30. I thought if you placed your daughter at work all would go right, with the aid of little Bertus1 they could hardly go wrong. I have sent this parcel to the stonewall brigade which makes over 200 prs sent to that brigade. I hope it is nearly satisfied. Is the cotton recd from Govt too, for is so the socks will have to be receipted for ? Fitzhugh has gone with Genl Stuart to hear Govr Vance address the N.C. troops. I Could not go. They are to be back to dinner & F. says he must return tomorrow. I shall have him to give you all news. I am glad to hear you are better. Any advance is delightful. Give much love to the girls & remember me to all friends. With constant prayers for yourself I am

With great affection

Truly yours

R E Lee
