The Lee Family Digital Archive is the largest online source for primary source materials concerning the Lee family of Virginia. It contains published and unpublished items, some well known to historians, others that are rare or have never before been put online. We are always looking for new letters, diaries, and books to add to our website. Do you have a rare item that you would like to donate or share with us? If so, please contact our editor, Colin Woodward, at  (804) 493-1940, about how you can contribute to this historic project.

Camp near Petersburg 24 June ‘64

I have recd dearest Mary your note of Sunday & the nice bread from Mrs Conway. Thank her for it. The cheese is very acceptable. I am glad to hear the clothes given me by those kind gentlemen are such as I can wear. I do not require them at present, having as many as I Can transport. I recd yesterday your note of Wednesday evg. I am glad to hear that you have appointed a time for leaving Richmond. As sorry as I shall be to be farther separated from you, I shall take great Comfort in your safer & more pleasant situation. Do not delay in your departure. I will endeavor to see you if possible. I fear your kind friends in Bedford have suffered from the inroads of Hunter; I trust a kind Providence has protected them. I am very well & kind friends present themselves every where. Give much love to my dear children. I am always thinking of you & them.

Very truly & Sincerely

R E Lee
