The Lee Family Digital Archive is the largest online source for primary source materials concerning the Lee family of Virginia. It contains published and unpublished items, some well known to historians, others that are rare or have never before been put online. We are always looking for new letters, diaries, and books to add to our website. Do you have a rare item that you would like to donate or share with us? If so, please contact our curator, Colin Woodward, about how you can contribute to this historic project.

Dear Sir

I take pleasure in complying with your request of the 1st Inst: & shall be glad if it should afford you any gratification. I hope that you will be able some day to repeat your visit to Virginia, & that you may find that your kind wishes for her prosperity may be in process of accomplishment. I fear that she has some years of suffering before her yet, but hope that by prudence & patience, all difficulties to her progress may be overcome.

With my best wishes for your own happiness.

I am very truly

Yours,

R E Lee

Mr. John Barron, Jr.
