The Lee Family Digital Archive is the largest online source for primary source materials concerning the Lee family of Virginia. It contains published and unpublished items, some well known to historians, others that are rare or have never before been put online. We are always looking for new letters, diaries, and books to add to our website. Do you have a rare item that you would like to donate or share with us? If so, please contact our curator, Colin Woodward, about how you can contribute to this historic project.

General Order

The _______ battalion for cowardly conduct on every battlefield from Gettysburg to the present time, is unworthy of a place, as an organization, in the Army of Northern Virginia.

It will be marched to Division Headquarters Wednesday afternoon at 4 o’clock, and surrender its colors and be marched to the rear in disgrace. The General commanding the Army of Northern Virginia regrets that there are some brave officers and men belonging to this organization who must share in its common disgrace, but the good of the Service requires it, and they must bear it as brave soldiers.

By command of Genl R E Lee
