My dear Sir
I sent the officers of Lee arms off hurriedly to the steamer, and failed to send note with same as I intended, the photographer charged me 25 a piece or 50 cts for the two. Mr Brown the last time I saw him promised me that he would certainly furnish me in writing what he knew concerning the effigy, but said it was but little, I hope in the course of human events to get some thing from him for you-if reminders will avail—I had hoped to be in Washington before the 1st of June as I had some business in Balto, & expected to cross to Washington & come down the Potomac on steamer. In answer to your Enquiry I have to state that no steamer from Norfolk to Baltimore on to Washington touches this County;—the company which runs the line of steamers from Baltimore to Fredericksburg did have during the winter a boat which ran to Norfolk, which would have landed you in Lancaster the adjoining county, but she has suspended her trip, & there is no boat from Norfolk touching either Northd or Lancaster counties at this time.
