The Lee Family Digital Archive is the largest online source for primary source materials concerning the Lee family of Virginia. It contains published and unpublished items, some well known to historians, others that are rare or have never before been put online. We are always looking for new letters, diaries, and books to add to our website. Do you have a rare item that you would like to donate or share with us? If so, please contact our curator, Colin Woodward, about how you can contribute to this historic project.

Your Real Friend John Bland

This day the King went to the House of Lords & gave his Royal assent to the Bill that Repeals the American Stampt Act. The Universal Joy that diffuses itself thro’ all Ranks of People is more difficult to be express’d, than the good Effects of this Benign Act, to the Commercial Interest of these Dominions. I Sincerely Congratulate you on this important Occasion which at once removes a real & general Grievance, restores Tranquillity to America, gives new Life to expiring Trade & Thus establishes Peace & Harmony between this Kingdom & her Colonies.
