Head Quarters Armies Confederate States,
Richmond, Jun 10 1864.
General:
I inclose you copies of Gen Beauregard’s dispatches of last night in reply to my inquiries. It will be seen you were entirely correct in the surmise as to the force operating against the general. It was a mere raiding party to cut our communications, & may do us much harm on the Weldon Rail Road. Our Cavalry was unfortunately dismounted & in the trenches at Bermuda Hundreds, whilst the Enemy was moving from its front to our communications in the rear.
Yours Very respectfully
Braxton Bragg

P.S. I have suspended the movement of troops from this to South Side James River, as telegraphed to you last night.
