The Lee Family Digital Archive is the largest online source for primary source materials concerning the Lee family of Virginia. It contains published and unpublished items, some well known to historians, others that are rare or have never before been put online. We are always looking for new letters, diaries, and books to add to our website. Do you have a rare item that you would like to donate or share with us? If so, please contact our curator, Colin Woodward, about how you can contribute to this historic project.

[Written on reverse of letter, Samuel Osgood, et al., to Walker, 1789 September 8]

Gent

Your Letter of yesterday has been handed to me.

The Books & papers of the Secret Commee have been locked up & have not been opened there Six Weeks, the only reason of their not having been sent to your office before now, was my wish to advise with you first on the Subject of Mr. Morris Vouchers, he having mentioned to me long since, that if I ever gave up the papers before the [accounts] were settled. I must return him his Vouchers. if the Board have no objections to this the accountant may have the rest of the papers whenever he pleases.

As to reporting a Statement of the [accounts] to the present time. I did about six weeks before I looked up the papers transmit to the Board a General Statement of the progress made in the adjustment at that time, & the Books will Shew if any [account] has been settled since that.

I am &c,

Benjamin Walker, Esquire
