The Lee Family Digital Archive is the largest online source for primary source materials concerning the Lee family of Virginia. It contains published and unpublished items, some well known to historians, others that are rare or have never before been put online. We are always looking for new letters, diaries, and books to add to our website. Do you have a rare item that you would like to donate or share with us? If so, please contact our curator, Colin Woodward, about how you can contribute to this historic project.

Washington March 17th 1825

Dear Sir,

I consequence of what I deemed a very advantageous offer from Gen. Walter Jones, I have removed my residence to Washington, and have determined to discontinue my attendance upon any of the Courts in Virginia. But I am too sensible of the kindness which dictated your employment of me in your sister’s suit now pending in Prince William, not to feel very willing to prosecute it to judgement. But as I have, and wish, no other business in that Court, I would be much obliged to you to inform me with certainty of the time when you will be ready to try it, that I may not take a long and disagreable and inconvenient ride in vain:

For the services I have already rendered, viz issuing and paying for two writs, writing the declaration, and the bill of injunction to stay waste, I hope $25 is not an unreasonable fee, which my change of residence makes it desireable for me to receive now

Yours truly, & most respectfully

C. C. Lee

Geo. Carter Esqr
