The Lee Family Digital Archive is the largest online source for primary source materials concerning the Lee family of Virginia. It contains published and unpublished items, some well known to historians, others that are rare or have never before been put online. We are always looking for new letters, diaries, and books to add to our website. Do you have a rare item that you would like to donate or share with us? If so, please contact our curator, Colin Woodward, about how you can contribute to this historic project.

My dear Sir

I must request you to excuse my long delay in replying to your two letters. It has been my intention to give you all the information I have, on the subject, you refer to. I have had to consult, other members of the family & I am now waiting for some answers but I will write out correctly, & send to you, such as I am sure of before very long.

I have a great deal of business to attend to, & becoming infirm from all

very truly yours

M.D. Gouverneur1
