My Dear Colonel,
Genl Lee has just returned me your telegram of the other day which I had committed to him for his recommendation, with the above endorsement. I send it because I know it will be a gratification to you. I hope you will get the appt. Sue is, I learn, with you. My best love to her. I hope her mother will be in Staunton next Tuesday night on her way to Richmond next day, to see me for a little while. The divine blessing rest on you both.
