The Lee Family Digital Archive is the largest online source for primary source materials concerning the Lee family of Virginia. It contains published and unpublished items, some well known to historians, others that are rare or have never before been put online. We are always looking for new letters, diaries, and books to add to our website. Do you have a rare item that you would like to donate or share with us? If so, please contact our curator, Colin Woodward, about how you can contribute to this historic project.

dear Mama

I send you copies of 2 letters recd. some time ago in relation to the last illness of my lamented father

I condole with you immensly in the tender & mournful reflections their funeral will excite, & as the widow of my noble sire, the mother of my uncomparable & beloved brothers & sisters, & as a well tried disciple of adversity, my care & affection will follow you through all the changes of this life, & I shall always feel your happiness as in a great measure necessary to mine.

Would Ann like to have a canary bird? We expect Robt. & Smith the first of August. our love to all.
