The Lee Family Digital Archive is the largest online source for primary source materials concerning the Lee family of Virginia. It contains published and unpublished items, some well known to historians, others that are rare or have never before been put online. We are always looking for new letters, diaries, and books to add to our website. Do you have a rare item that you would like to donate or share with us? If so, please contact our curator, Colin Woodward, about how you can contribute to this historic project.

Burke’s P. O. Fairfax Co Va

My dear Taylor

I do not know (and hope that it is not so) whether it is necessary to express to you in writing.  what you must already know. viz that I was very much impressed with your article on the Battle of Gettysburg. published in the last Pa. Hist Papers.

I can not sympathize with you in your, gentle it is true, strictures upon Gen Stuart, but upon the whole. your’s is, as it ought to be – the clearest and fairest account of that great battle. that I have read.

Please accept my most cordial congratulations, and believe me as ever

Your friend

W. H. F. Lee

P. S. I hope you will be in Richmond during Fair Week.

Your’s,

W. H. F. L
