My dear Colonel

            I send my servant in great haste, to say if you shd, be at home-today­ about dinner time. and have “enough and some to spare." Davidson and myself, will dine with you at 4. p. m. If you are not preparing please say so. any visit will pospone the pleasure to another day.

            you see I am literally taking you at your word. If I am going to put you to any trouble. Please let the whole thing slide.
