My dear Nephew,
I have just heard from Fitzhugh that you did not visit the White House, but would go directly on to Boston. In that event you will miss their letters which I forwarded to you at Washington City. I write that you may take measures to procure them.
We miss you very much & hope that you had a comfortable journey & that the act of it may be prosperous & the termination happy. I write now to [save the mail?] & it is so dark I can hardly see. All join in love.
Truly & Affy,
R E Lee
Mr. Edward L Childe
