My dear Mr. Tagart

I have just read in the Baltimore Sun of this morg, 3^rd May a dispatch from Washington, purporting to give an account of my interview with President Grant on Saturday last. As you were present you will know that it is incorrect in all its details, & you will do me a favour to so inform the editor. Besides I am there made to say what I have never said to anyone & could not have said without uttering an untruth. Excuse me for troubling you in this matter & believe me very truly & sincerely
