The Lee Family Digital Archive is the largest online source for primary source materials concerning the Lee family of Virginia. It contains published and unpublished items, some well known to historians, others that are rare or have never before been put online. We are always looking for new letters, diaries, and books to add to our website. Do you have a rare item that you would like to donate or share with us? If so, please contact our curator, Colin Woodward, about how you can contribute to this historic project.

My dear friend

I enclose a letter which Mr Lee has sent me for you I direct it to Savannah as I do not know where you are at this present time. I hope your health is restored & that we may all meet once more in peace & safety. I have no hope of Mr Lee’s return this winter & suppose I ought to be content with the laurels he has gained. But they are a poor compensation for such long continued absence. I have heard from Mrs Stiles recently & have written to her she seems to be enjoying herself very much. My kind regards to your Mother & sisters & believe me dear yrs truly M C Lee

say to your mother

I received a letter from her some time since acknowledging the receipt of the box of currant jelly to which I have never replied & for which she must receive my acknowledgements
