The Lee Family Digital Archive is the largest online source for primary source materials concerning the Lee family of Virginia. It contains published and unpublished items, some well known to historians, others that are rare or have never before been put online. We are always looking for new letters, diaries, and books to add to our website. Do you have a rare item that you would like to donate or share with us? If so, please contact our editor, Colin Woodward, at  (804) 493-1940, about how you can contribute to this historic project.

West Point          15 March 1854

My dearest Markie

I take advantage of Mary’s letter to explain my non arrival in washington on tuesday as I had expected. I cannot leave until the arrival of Capt Cullum, who had gone to New London on some business relating to Fort Trumbull, & therefore did not receive my Summons. I expect him to night or tomorrow, in which event I shall be in Washington friday or Saturday. I shall therefore have the great pleasure of being at Arlington Saturday evg next at all events, & passing there I hope one more Sunday, where I have passed many many happy & improving ones, & where my affections & attachments are more strongly placed than at any other place in the World. Love to our dear father & Aunt Anna.

Truly yours

R E Lee
