The Lee Family Digital Archive is the largest online source for primary source materials concerning the Lee family of Virginia. It contains published and unpublished items, some well known to historians, others that are rare or have never before been put online. We are always looking for new letters, diaries, and books to add to our website. Do you have a rare item that you would like to donate or share with us? If so, please contact our editor, Colin Woodward, at  (804) 493-1940, about how you can contribute to this historic project.

Head Quarters.

Army Va near Martinsburgh

Sept 21st 1862

Gen Louis T. Wigfall

Gen:

I have not yet heard from you with regard to the new Texas Regiment which you promised to endeavor to raise for this army. I need them much, I rely upon those we have in all light places, and fear I have to call upon them too often. They have fought grandly, nobly, and we must have more of them. Please make every possible exertion to get them in and send them on to me. You must help us in this matter, with a few more such regiments as those there which Hood, now as an example of daring & bravery. I could feel much more confidence of the result of the campaign.

Very Respectfully Yours

R E Lee
