My precious Chass
I enclose a letter just recd & a million of kisses. I sent Fitzhugh his shirts & heard of him this morg from from Col Starke just from his camp. He is well & wants to see you badly I know, but not as much as your Pa’a. Your departure has thrown Custis flat on his back & he has taken to pills. Heard from your Ma’a yesterday. She is afraid she will have to Surrender to the alarms of the girls who are terrified at the apprehended attentions of the heroes of their Cousins, to decamp from Marlbourne. Mary is well & Dangerfield Lewis Considerate better. No news but what you see in the papers. Give much love to Agnes & the baby. All here are exercised about the expected advent of the enemy. God grant they may be kept at bay & sent back to their own homes. With prayers for your happiness & safety.
