The Lee Family Digital Archive is the largest online source for primary source materials concerning the Lee family of Virginia. It contains published and unpublished items, some well known to historians, others that are rare or have never before been put online. We are always looking for new letters, diaries, and books to add to our website. Do you have a rare item that you would like to donate or share with us? If so, please contact our editor, Colin Woodward, at  (804) 493-1940, about how you can contribute to this historic project.

My dear Custis,

I have recd a letter from Mr Wm F. Taylor Cashr B R of Viga. saying he had sold the Hudson River R. R. Coupons @ 150 per CT premium.

City of Pittsburg          do                    @ 100     “                   “

City of StLouis             do                    @40       “                    “

& if he had the others now due he could sell them at the same rate. I have written to him that you would hand them to him. If Convenient please do so & tell him he Can sell them now or when practicable to advantage.

F[itzhugh] reached here yesterday from the Valley & joined his brigade now in my front.

I have nothing new to relate beyond my public dispatches. I am operating to baffle the advance of the enemy & retain him among the mts: until I can get him separated that I Can strike at him to advantage. His force will be thus diminished and disheartened. His sick & stragglers must be going back. He is along the Manassas R. R. near Piedmont. His advance Cavy along the line of the Rappk___

Give much love to your dear mother, Agnes, & Charlotte not forgetting my Grd daughter. I wish you were with me.

Truly & affy your father

RE Lee

Col: G. W. Custis Lee
