The Lee Family Digital Archive is the largest online source for primary source materials concerning the Lee family of Virginia. It contains published and unpublished items, some well known to historians, others that are rare or have never before been put online. We are always looking for new letters, diaries, and books to add to our website. Do you have a rare item that you would like to donate or share with us? If so, please contact our editor, Colin Woodward, at  (804) 493-1940, about how you can contribute to this historic project.

My dear daughter

I enclose a letter that has been here over a week for Miss Ada. I do not Know where she is, or whether she is Coming to Richmond. Set Some of her beaux to work to Continue it to her. They will Carry it through the enemy’s line to serve her. I am too old. She would not receive me when I arrived. I hope Mrs. Caskie is better. Tell her she must soon get well. I have reported her to Mrs Lee, who will be sure to give her a little dose of blue mass if she catches her Sick.

Your father
