The Lee Family Digital Archive is the largest online source for primary source materials concerning the Lee family of Virginia. It contains published and unpublished items, some well known to historians, others that are rare or have never before been put online. We are always looking for new letters, diaries, and books to add to our website. Do you have a rare item that you would like to donate or share with us? If so, please contact our curator, Colin Woodward, about how you can contribute to this historic project.

My dear Custis

I am away from my baggage & the business I am engaged in is very unfavourable to wearing apparel. My pants have suffered considerably in the late scrimmage & I must ask you to Send me the pair you have of the suit that was presented to me. Small will bring them. I have ordered up my Camp & shall then be more Comfortable, as I have been living under trees mostly for the past three days. How is Robt? Tell him he is an awkward fellow to let those people hit him.1 Love to all

Very affy

RE Lee
