The Lee Family Digital Archive is the largest online source for primary source materials concerning the Lee family of Virginia. It contains published and unpublished items, some well known to historians, others that are rare or have never before been put online. We are always looking for new letters, diaries, and books to add to our website. Do you have a rare item that you would like to donate or share with us? If so, please contact our curator, Colin Woodward, about how you can contribute to this historic project.

Gaines Mill 8 June ’64

I recd to day your note without date. It is useless for us to grieve for the calamity at Staunton or elsewhere. We must bear everything with patience that is inflicted on us. It will be impossible to remove the silver &c from Lexington. It will incur more danger in removal than in remaining. It must bide its fate. I hope you are all well. Give love to the girls & may God bless & preserve you all.

Truly & sincerely

R E Lee
