The Lee Family Digital Archive is the largest online source for primary source materials concerning the Lee family of Virginia. It contains published and unpublished items, some well known to historians, others that are rare or have never before been put online. We are always looking for new letters, diaries, and books to add to our website. Do you have a rare item that you would like to donate or share with us? If so, please contact our editor, Colin Woodward, at  (804) 493-1940, about how you can contribute to this historic project.

Petersburg 1 March ‘65

My dear Mary

I send the bag with the memorandum receipt of the socks, & my drawers. You will see how skinny they are. I doubt whether Sweet Carrie who made them could squeeze her sweet self in them, much less a man of my ample dimensions. If you can put a broad strip down the back; I suppose it is all that can be done. We got down in good time yesterday & Fitzhugh & Rob continued their journey in the afternoon. They only expected to get as far as the first Cavy Camp last night. I thought you might like to have a list of the coupons left with you yesterday & enclose one. Give much love to all & may God guard & protect you is my constant prayer.

Truly & affy

R E Lee
