The Lee Family Digital Archive is the largest online source for primary source materials concerning the Lee family of Virginia. It contains published and unpublished items, some well known to historians, others that are rare or have never before been put online. We are always looking for new letters, diaries, and books to add to our website. Do you have a rare item that you would like to donate or share with us? If so, please contact our editor, Colin Woodward, at  (804) 493-1940, about how you can contribute to this historic project.

My dear Mary

I enclose a letter from Miss Fanny Nottingham with which she begged I would send her thanks for your present. I also send two baskets full of confederate bon bons & two Cornucopias, made by these little girls. The scarlet yarn, with which the baskets are ornamented was dyed at home by Mrs N. The baskets were made by Miss Fanny & all are of domestic manufacture. It seems to be an ingenious family. You must give the baskets to Lizzie from her Uncle.

I hope this bright day will cure you all, & that God will listen to the prayers that I trust will be offered by his sinful people in sincerity & truth, forgive them their past iniquities & restore them to his favour. May he guard & bless you all is my Constant prayer!

The accompy letters were written at their date, but from some omission of the Couriers were omitted. The bags also have been delayed by a similar oversight.

Very truly & affy

R E Lee
