Lt Col: G. T. Gordon P.A.C.S. joined the confederate army in the Fall of 1862, & served with distinction to the close of the war of 1865.
He was present at the battle of Fredericksburg & as senior officer of the 34th N.C. Regt: commd it at the battle of Chancellorsville. At Gettysburg in the same capacity he commd the brigade, & served with his regt: in 1864, in the battles of the Wilderness, Spottsylvania CH Cold Harbor &c, till the army took position in front of Petersburg, Richmond. In the Fall of 1864 he was transferred to Wilmington & & served as inspr Genl on Gen Whitings staff till the capture of Ft: Fischer, when he was appd by Genl Bragg Inspr Genl of his forces & was at the battles of Kinston & Bentonville. In my position & in every battle he recd the commendation of his commander, & displayed energy boldness & skill in the discharge of his duties
