I Send Major Janney’s statement of the socks & gloves recd. He seems to have gone back to the Commencement of the contribution this Fall. Before distribution he has to see in what brigades the men are in most need. This takes some time in the beginning, but goes on rapidly when Commd. I return the bag. I am glad to See Custis for a little while & to learn that you are all well. Give much love to the girls. I am very glad that little Annie is improving. I hope she will soon be well again & never be sick more. Tell Mildred that I felt quite flattered at Custis’ visit, but I learned about 10 O’clock last night, that miss Jenny Fairfax & a bevy of young damsels came down in the Same train, to attend some festival at an Arty Camp. That is the way children humbug their fathers.
