The Lee Family Digital Archive is the largest online source for primary source materials concerning the Lee family of Virginia. It contains published and unpublished items, some well known to historians, others that are rare or have never before been put online. We are always looking for new letters, diaries, and books to add to our website. Do you have a rare item that you would like to donate or share with us? If so, please contact our editor, Colin Woodward, at  (804) 493-1940, about how you can contribute to this historic project.

Lexington Va

28 Nov 1866

I was delighted this morg my dear Miss Laura, at recg your kind note. You know how I wish that you had been the beau of the photographs & how much I want to see you. I shall envy the inmates of Mt de chantal,1

the privilege of having you with them this winter, & wish that you had selected Lexington instead. Give much love for me to Miss Emmie & your mother, & say how very glad I should be if they could come & see us. I am glad to hear that your father has been able to visit you, & that your mother will be with him this winter. Ask them if they Cannot take Lexington in their route?

I return with the photographs, the last one taken, that you may know me in my academic garb. Please present my kindest regards to Mrs Triplett, & to Misses Lizzie & Mary

Mrs. Lee & my daughters send you much love & I am with great affection

Most truly yours

R E Lee
