The Lee Family Digital Archive is the largest online source for primary source materials concerning the Lee family of Virginia. It contains published and unpublished items, some well known to historians, others that are rare or have never before been put online. We are always looking for new letters, diaries, and books to add to our website. Do you have a rare item that you would like to donate or share with us? If so, please contact our editor, Colin Woodward, at  (804) 493-1940, about how you can contribute to this historic project.

Dear Miss Hope:

I have just returned here, after a very pleasant visit to Washn & Ravensworth.

I left all the Carters very well & continually talking of you all at Brook Hill, & your charming House Party.

I hope poor Tabb is better. She certainly is more cheerful & more like herself but physically she is as low apparently as she can be. She was very much inclined at your sending her the photo & says she intends to leave it enlarged & brought out more distinctly.

I send you a letter from Col Venable which will explain itself. I think I agree with him. Gen Fitz Lee is here & he says that what Venable says is correct in his judgment & in better taste. I think his simple name is more effective.

But you must take others opinions as well as ours & do what you think best.

I hope you are all well & are enjoying this nice “spring” weather. Still if we had always a pleasant “it,” one could stand almost all things. With much love for you all, I am very truly yours

R E Lee
