The Lee Family Digital Archive is the largest online source for primary source materials concerning the Lee family of Virginia. It contains published and unpublished items, some well known to historians, others that are rare or have never before been put online. We are always looking for new letters, diaries, and books to add to our website. Do you have a rare item that you would like to donate or share with us? If so, please contact our editor, Colin Woodward, at  (804) 493-1940, about how you can contribute to this historic project.

2nd December

My dear little Fannie

I do not think I ever replied to your last letter & now I have only a few moments left to write as I have just heard of an opportunity to Petersburgh & want to send you all a Xmas gift & as it is more convenient to send money which you can use yourselves on what you most need, I enclose $5.00. We are all here much as usual & and the Genl unites with me in love to you all. I hope you are recovering from the troubles of the war & may enjoy all the health & happiness you deserve. Excuse this hurried letter. I have not time to add another word.

Yrs affectionately

Mary Custis Lee
