My Dear Sir:
I have received your letter of the 28th ult. in relation to the publication of the work I contemplated on the campaigns in Va.; and thank you for the interest you evince on the subject. I think it best to defer its publication; and my [views] in reference [then] to, are now the same as when I wrote to you in March last. I therefore can not make you an offer on the subject, and am not prepared to receive any from you. I am much obliged to you for the 2d vol. of Headley’s History; and with my kind regards, in which I am joined by my son,
I am very respectfully,
yr. obdt. Svt.
