<br /> Lee Letter: c010

Washington and Lee University

Sender: Robert E. Lee
Recipient: Annette Carter

I was too much disappointed my beautiful Annette not to see you today. I had hoped certainly to have done so, and looked for you anxiously all day yesterday. When are you coming up and when shall I see you? Are you not going down to Cedar Grove? Miss May expected you and on reaching Alexandria this morning, finding you were not with the party from here, returned to Washington with Cousin Teub to accompany him to Chantilly this hot day. Miss May Jones was to be of the party. Your Cousin May Lee, Fitzhugh and Charlotte went down this morning. They expected you to have gone with them. Charlotte has been wishing to see you and all expecting you. Come over the last of this week and I will take you down next Tuesday and bring your Cousin M. back. She thought of returning the last of next week or the first of the following. Do let me see you somewhere and tell me when. I long so to see you and my time is passing away so quickly. . . .

R. E. Lee

Miss Mary S – left her brothers Catesby and Lucien to go with Teub.
