Washington and Lee University

Sender: Robert E. Lee
Recipient: Mrs. S. A. Rees

My dear Mrs Rees

Your Son Albert reached Lexington about a week since. I procured him lodging in the family of the rev – d Mr & Mrs. Elevee; of the Presbyterian Church, where he will have every beneficial influence, & be well cared for. He has also been assigned to classes in Math – cs Latin & Greek until the Semiannual Examination now in progress, shall be completed; when he will be arranged to those classes with which he can most advantageously advance.

It will give me pleasure to do anything for him I can, & I hope he will devote himself diligently; to his Studies, otherwise his connection with the College will be useless to him. You will be able to form some estimate of his progress from his monthly report which will be sent you & I hope you will encourage him to apply himself diligently to the Academic Course & to practice the lessons he has already learned in obedience, truth & religion –

I regret to learn by your letter of the 25th Inst’, which I rec – d yesterday, of the Sickness of Mr Rees, & with sincere thanks for your kind wishes I am with great respect

Your obt Servt

R E Lee

Mrs. S. A. Rees
