<br /> Lee Letter: wl006

Washington and Lee University

Sender: Mrs. W. H. Polk
Recipient: Robert E.Lee

Dear Sir

Pardon what may seem negligence on my part after commencing a correspondence on a subject in which we both are interested, to suspend it so abruptly – My apology must be, that I have – <illegible> – a letter from my Mother in Law, Mrs. Jas. K. Polk of Nashville, Tenn, with whom I placed the watch requesting her to take care of it, until called for.

I have written her of an entirely safe opportunity offered, to send it to me – I shall probably be in Washington about the last of Jannuary – Be assured that we will use our best efforts to have it returned to you at as early a time, as it can with safety be done, taking into consideration the distances the Parties are from each other. I will write you immediately on hearing from Mrs Polk.

With kind Regards

Mrs. W. H. Polk
