The Ebbitt House is mentioned in connection with the Lees in the 22 January 1890 issue of the Washington Post: “The reception of Mrs. Gen. W. H. F. Lee, held in the red parlor of the Ebbitt House yesterday afternoon from 2 to 6 was one of the largest of the season. Mrs. Lee was assisted by Mrs. and Miss Washington, of Tennessee, and Miss Kemp, of Virginia. Delightful music was furnished by an excellent orchestra. The floral decorations were very fine.”
