My dear Col

I am endeavoring to collect sufficient information to enable me to write a history of the Campaigns in Viga. All my records, reports, returns, orders etc were destroyed by the clerks in charge of them, on the retreat from Petersburg, for fear of their falling into the hands of the Federals. I am endeavoring to replace them, or to supply their places by authentic papers. Can you furnish me with anything? When I last saw you, you had some hopes of recovering some of your maps etc. Have you any plans of battlefields, defensive lines etc of which you could give me copies? With my kindest regards to Mrs Rives, & to every member of your fathers family

I am most truly yours

R E Lee
