Washington and Lee University

Sender: Robert E. Lee
Recipient: Ann L. Jones

Abstract: Letter of 23 SEPT 1870 written at Washington College to Mrs. Ann L. Jones advising that the portrait of her grandfather, Chief Justice John Marshall, had arrived in good condition and placed in the Library of the College. It is much admired and the hope is that students of the College may be inspired to imitate his noble example. States that her nephew, John Marshall, has entered all his classes and is an inmate of the College, and that her son is comfortably located in a boarding house and will get my personal supervision.
