Genl. Wolseley

Dear Sir

I have recently read with much pleasure the article on General Lee written by you for Macmillans Magazine. Testimony from such source to the ability, the efficient service and the exalted character of the great Confederate leader is very dear to those of his old soldiers who survive him, as indeed to all the people of the south.

After the perusal of your article, it occurred to me that it would not be amiss for me to send you a copy of the monograph given by me to the public some years ago, as it might give you some additional information as to the disparity of numbers with which Genl Lee had to contend. I have therefore caused to be sent to your address a copy of “Four Years with Genl. Lee” which you will please do me the honor to accept, with the assurance of my highest esteem

Very resp[ectfull]y and truly yours,

W. H. Taylor
