My dear Mrs. Copeland:[1]

With all my heart, I thank you for your thoughtfulness! Since my father’s passing, I have felt that the firmest link which bound me to the past has been severed, but I thank God for his ninety-one rich years.

            At such a time, the sympathy of friends like you is the surest of comforts, after faith itself.
